Attending to Our Commitments

Masculinities' Intersections with Theory & Practice

Building on the innovative presentations and lectures given at the 2021 virtual conference, the 2022 conference theme calls for a continuation of grappling with the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of our work. The conference theme invites reflection and critique of the theories developed and applied within critical studies of men and masculinities - whether that be in scholarship, practice, or the classroom. It emphasizes the desire and need to attend to our commitments, to think about them seriously, and to develop the field in concert with our allied disciplines, theories, and methods. We encourage proposals that think outside of disciplinary boundaries and build dialog between and among various fields and theories.

Conference Registration Information

Given the financial situation of many individuals and institutions in light of the global pandemic, and the reduced costs associated with hosting a virtual conference, AMSA has decided to significantly reduce our conference registration fees for 2022 in the following ways:

  • Registration is FREE for all students (proof of student status required)
  • Member registration has been reduced to $50 (usually $275)
  • Non-member registration has been reduced to $125 (usually $325)
If you are not yet a member and would like to take advantage of the reduced registration fee, be sure to JOIN AMSA prior to registering for the conference. Membership in AMSA costs $50, so you can save money while also gaining access to members-only benefits such as our database of course syllabi, our membership directory, and additional member benefits being developed.

Support AMSA Initiatives

We are also inviting you to consider donating to AMSA in order support the organization's ongoing operations during this time. When registering, you will be given the opportunity to donate in the following ways:

  • "Sponsor" a student - offsets the costs associated with free registration for students.
  • AMSA's General Gift Fund supports the ongoing operations of AMSA, with a particular focus on mentoring for new and emerging scholars and practitioners.
  • The Samuel Femiano Men's Studies Lecture Fund is an endowment created to support an invited Men's Studies plenary lecture each year at AMSA's annual conference.
  • The Loren Frankel Memorial Scholarship Fund is an endowment created to support annual competitive scholarships to one or more students attending and presenting at the annual conference.

We appreciate donations of any amount and also recognize that many are unable to give at this time. We appreciate your consideration.

Refund Policies

  • Full refunds of conference registration fees will be administered only if requested on or before Tuesday, May 31st, 2021
  • Donations are non-refundable.
